Aion 2 Ferocious Horn Den Guide: Boss Mechanics

Ferocious Horn Den in Aion 2: totem room, orb collection, bleed, claw patterns and the black-hole orb toss — boss by boss with counters.

7 min read

Ferocious Horn Den is the other 3-star at Season 1 and the denser mechanic check. Three bosses, a totem room between the first and second, and a final boss with four distinct mechanics stacked back to back. This page is boss by boss, with the totem step included. For the star order and item-level context, see Dungeons: Expeditions. Back to the Beginner Guide.

Ferocious Horn Den Bosses and Party Setup

Party check before the door: one main tank (Templar or Gladiator), one main healer (Cleric), and three DPS, with someone comfortable grabbing orbs on call for both early bosses.

First Boss: The Orb-Collection Opener

steps

  1. The boss flies up and summons small orbs around the room while sending out a bolt of lightning; the whole party needs to spread out and collect every orb. Collecting an orb stacks a movement-slow debuff, so don't let one player try to grab them all alone.
  2. Orbs nobody collects come back to bite you: the boss's follow-up attack detonates any orb left on the ground for heavy, room-wide damage.
  3. The boss returns to the center and roars twice; on the second roar it unleashes a circular wave attack, jump to dodge it. If the party collected its orbs well, getting caught by the wave doesn't hurt much.
  4. One player is marked with a red circular telegraph; everyone else needs to clear out of its radius.
  5. A purple orb periodically spawns and attaches to whoever is nearest; its gauge fills and then it explodes. Dodge away from it as the gauge nears full, or bump it early on purpose to pop it before it can catch the group, there's no need to drag it out to the room's edge.

The Totem Room: Bombs and the Stair Split

steps

  1. Clearing the room spawns waves of adds; split up so one melee dealer and the healer hold aggro near the bottom while the other two dealers head up the two side stairs.
  2. Bomb boxes sit up on the stairs, grab a bomb and use it on the adds, it hits them for very heavy damage. Save bombs for the tanky "totem caster" add in particular; the rest die fast to normal hits.
  3. Healers should stay mobile, swinging back toward the stair fighters to keep them topped up while they're split off from the group.
  4. Once every add is down, break the totem and head out through the altar door to reach the second boss.

There's no shortcut here: the door out only opens once every add is cleared and the totem itself is broken.

Second Boss: Orb Duty on the Adds

steps

  1. When the second boss's first health segment breaks, it spawns four chain-linked adds along with an orb near the altar. One dealer (a ranged dealer works well) grabs the orb, that's what lets them actually damage the chained adds, so kill them with that player while everyone else keeps hitting the boss.
  2. A different party member gets hit with a ground DoT circle plus a bind; the rest of the party needs to stand in that circle with them to break the bind. Don't let two of these circles overlap, stacking them hurts badly.
  3. Around the second health segment, the boss pulls the party toward the center like a magnet, get out to the edge quickly instead of fighting the pull. There's enough time to react, so don't panic.
  4. Outside of those beats it's ordinary trash patterns; this boss is the easiest of the three once the orb and the bind are handled.

This is the same orb-and-collect language as the first boss, but here the orb doesn't just spare you a hit, it's what lets you fight back against the chain adds at all.

Final Boss: Bleed Stacks and the Claw Patterns

steps

  1. Every claw hit stacks bleed. At three stacks, a damage plate spawns right under you, watch for it and drop it out toward the edge of the arena before it catches anyone else.
  2. First claw pattern: the boss seeds a few exploding orbs on the ground, backflips, then its hand glows blue right before a forward claw flurry. Getting hit jumps your bleed straight to a plate, so move behind the boss the moment you see the blue glow.
  3. Second claw pattern: the boss roars into a biting wind-up; a hit from the front stuns you, and the stunned player eats a follow-up claw flurry. If you're stunned, burn a mobility skill immediately to get behind the boss.
  4. Third claw pattern: a fast triple dash that's hard to read on reaction. Time a dodge to it instead, a well-timed dodge is a just-evade with a brief invulnerability window.

Bleed is what actually threatens the party here, not the raw claw damage, every plate that lands under a player is one more hazard the group has to dodge for the rest of the fight, so keep clearing yours to the edge.

Final Boss: The Clone-Charge Block Rounds

steps

  1. The boss flies off toward the rocks, then summons a clone below and marks one random player as its target, gather at the center as soon as this starts.
  2. The clone charges the marked player. One other party member has to step into its path and take the hit for them. A big circle telegraph means everyone else stays out of it; a small circle means everyone else piles in together so the marked player survives, taking a small-circle hit alone leaves them dead or on sliver health.
  3. This happens twice the first time and three times once the boss is around half health, same pattern each round.
  4. Whoever blocks a charge picks up a claw debuff and, a few seconds later, a damage plate under their feet. Don't have the same player block twice in a row, hand it to someone else, and clear that plate out to the edge before the next charge round starts.

Final Boss: The Black Hole Orb Toss

steps

  1. With about two health bars left, the boss turns to shadow and makes three wide dash attacks, give them room, then a black hole opens at the center of the arena.
  2. The boss marks one player with a red orb overhead and throws it at them; that player has to sprint to the boss's opposite side so the throw flies into the black hole instead of them. It has to land three times.
  3. Right before the third throw, the whole party gets feared, jump at the right moment to shake it off. If you do get feared anyway, don't panic, just get back into position once it clears.
  4. Everyone except the marked player can DPS the boss the entire time. Clear this and you're past every mechanic that can wipe the whole party.

There's no special role split needed for global 5-player: the marked player handles the repositioning each throw, and the rest of the party just keeps DPSing the boss.

Final Boss: The Last Block Mechanic

Ferocious Horn Den FAQ

FAQ

How many bosses are in Ferocious Horn Den?

Three bosses, with a totem add-clearing room between the first and second. Orbs show up in some form on every boss: collect them on the first, grab one to fight adds on the second, and reposition one into a black hole on the final boss.

What is the totem room?

An add-clearing gauntlet split across two stairs. Part of the party holds mobs near the bottom while the rest grab bombs from boxes on the stairs to blow up the adds, especially a tanky "totem caster." Break the totem once everything's dead to open the way to boss 2.

Why does the final boss bleed matter more than claw damage?

Claw hits stack bleed, and at three stacks a damage plate spawns under you that has to be cleared to the edge. Reading the three claw patterns right, the blue-glow flurry, the stun-into-flurry, and the fast triple dash, is what keeps those plates from piling up.

How do you handle the black hole orb toss?

The boss marks one player and throws a red orb at them three times; that player repositions to the boss's opposite side each time so the throw lands in the black hole instead of the party. Everyone else can keep DPSing the boss throughout.
