The Gladiator is Aion 2's heavy fighter, a plate-wearing melee powerhouse that wields a greatsword. It balances massive area-of-effect damage with enough survivability to function as a dungeon off-tank. If you want a forgiving melee experience that can hold its own when pulls get messy, this is the class to pick.
This page is built around one question: where do your points go, and when. It gives the character level each skill arrives at, which skills to raise first, the specialty to take at each skill level, how a freshly levelled 45 spends its points, and which skills go to 20 after that. Stigmas, Daevanion, macros and rotations follow. For how the class stands against the rest of the roster, see the Class Tier List.
The macro, in short
If you only want the rotation, here is a setup that works. Every step in this macro runs on a 10 ms delay.
steps
- Rage Burst
- Ruinous Blow
- Keen Strike
Rage Burst opens, so Overhead Slam is spammable for the window that follows instead of waiting on its proc.

The skill bar behind that chain, with the level on each slot
The skill levels in that panel come from a live server and run past anything global has on day one, so copy the order rather than the numbers.
A Korean guide covering the same class: The 19 August Gladiator changes and what they did to real DPS by Joystick.
The rest of this page is the build behind that chain: what to level first, which Stigmas carry it, and where the Daevanion points go.
Gladiator role and weapon
The Gladiator is a melee tank/DPS hybrid. You wear plate armor, wield a two-handed greatsword, and rely on mana (MP) for your abilities.
While the Templar is the game's dedicated main tank, aLuckyRO notes that a Gladiator is a semi-tank that can comfortably tank early one-star and two-star dungeons with the right build. Instead of a tank's defensive kit, it leans on life-leech passives like Blood Absorption and heavy damage output. Early on, the class runs short of mana. The first specialties on Keen Strike and Rending Blow ease that, and Rending Blow's MP-on-crit specialty at skill level 16 ends it.
Build order: what to level and when
Five parts, in the order you meet them: how points and specialties work, the level-by-level order, a real level 45 allocation, the specialty picks, and the targets after 45.
How skill points, levels and specialties work
Every skill starts at level 1 and is raised with mastery points in the skill window. Points take a skill to level 10 and no further. The game data sets the price and what each level opens:
| Skill level | Mastery points | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 | 1 per level | A stronger skill only |
| 5 to 7 | 2 per level | A stronger skill only |
| 8 | 4 | First specialty slot and a choice of three specialties |
| 9 and 10 | 4 per level | The cap for mastery points |
| 12 | Daevanion, gear or Arcana | Second slot and the fourth specialty |
| 16 | Daevanion, gear or Arcana | The fifth specialty |
| 20 | Daevanion, gear or Arcana | Third slot |
So a skill costs 13 points to reach 8 and 21 to reach 10. Your character level is the second limit: after you learn a skill, it can go up one level every three character levels. Keen Strike, learned at level 1, can reach 8 at character level 19 and 10 at 25. Ruinous Blow, learned at 14, can reach 8 at 32 and 10 at 38. Three late passives have no such gate in the game data: Experienced Counterstrike, Survival Willpower and Murderous Burst can go to 10 as soon as you learn them at 21, 23 and 25.
The budget is the third. aLuckyRO counts about 250 points on a Gladiator that has just reached 45, and around 420 at end game once the Monolith feathers and the Shugo Festival shop are done. At 21 points a skill, 250 buys roughly twelve skills at 10, so you cannot max everything by 45. Resets are free, so a wrong choice only costs you the time to reassign it. The Skills, Stigmas and Macros Guide covers the general system.
Level 1 to 45, step by step
Each block below puts the unlock levels from the game data next to what the sources say to do with your points at that stage. The Inven post and Society of Gaming put your two mouse-button skills first, and aLuckyRO stops most other actives at 8 for their first specialty.
Levels 1 to 8
- Skills learned: Keen Strike, Rending Blow, Leaping Slam, Survival Stance (1), Mocking Blade (3), Overhead Slam (4), Sword Aura Rampage (5), Protection Armor (6), Ankle Slice (7), Crushing Wave (8)
- Actives that can reach 8: None yet
- Where the points go: Keen Strike and Rending Blow to the highest level your character allows, then Survival Stance and Protection Armor
Levels 9 to 18
- Skills learned: Blood Absorption (9), Rush Strike (10), Identify Weakness (11), Aerial Snare (12), Attack Preparation (13), Ruinous Blow (14), Impact Hit (15), Defiance (16), Destructive Impulse (17)
- Actives that can reach 8: None yet
- Where the points go: Keep both clicks capped, then Blood Absorption, Attack Preparation and Identify Weakness
Levels 19 to 25
- Skills learned: Experienced Counterstrike (21), Stigmas (22), Survival Willpower (23), Murderous Burst (25)
- Actives that can reach 8: Keen Strike, Rending Blow, Leaping Slam (19), Mocking Blade (21), Overhead Slam (22), Sword Aura Rampage (23), Ankle Slice (25)
- Where the points go: First specialties on Keen Strike and Rending Blow at 19. Experienced Counterstrike and Murderous Burst, the passives the end-game lists rank highest, can go straight to 10 when learned. Both clicks can reach 10 at 25
Levels 26 to 38
- Skills learned: Nothing new
- Actives that can reach 8: Crushing Wave (26), Rush Strike (28), Aerial Snare (30), Ruinous Blow (32), Defiance (34)
- Where the points go: Ruinous Blow to 8 at 32 and 10 at 38, the other actives to 8 as each one unlocks
Levels 39 to 45
- Skills learned: Nothing new
- Actives that can reach 8: Nothing new
- Where the points go: Finish the passives and spend what is left, as in the next section
Where that advice comes from: a November 2025 levelling post on Inven says to max the left click and the right click first and then turn to passives, naming Survival Stance, Protection Armor, and then Blood Absorption, Attack Preparation and Identify Weakness to max. Society of Gaming gives the same rule for every class, left click and right click first because they cost no cooldown and the left click restores MP. xMontu aims Keen Strike at level 12 early on, two levels more than points allow, and calls it one of the least important skills later. The Inven post names Rending Blow as the skill it most wants at 12, with the extra levels from Daevanion skill nodes. Experienced Counterstrike, Attack Preparation and Murderous Burst are the passives aLuckyRO, xMontu and Storyteller all put at or near the top.
Where 250 points go at level 45
aLuckyRO levelled a new Gladiator to 45 for his beginner build and spent its roughly 250 points like this. The levels are as his skill window shows them, and some include bonus levels from outside it: ten skills already stood above level 1 before he spent a point, and Murderous Burst's 11 carries a +1.

A freshly levelled 45: Rending Blow and Ruinous Blow at 10, the other actives mostly at 8, and four passives at 10 or more. Source: aLuckyRO
| Skill | Level | Specialty he takes |
|---|---|---|
| Rending Blow | 10 | -20% MP consumed |
| Ruinous Blow | 10 | +12.5 m range early, +30% Skill Critical Hit as the alternative |
| Keen Strike | 8 | +20% MP restored |
| Leaping Slam | 8 | Resets its cooldown when you defeat an enemy |
| Mocking Blade | 8 | Absorbs HP |
| Overhead Slam | 8 | Absorbs HP |
| Crushing Wave | 8 | Absorbs 2% HP, or the damage option if you dodge mechanics well |
| Rush Strike | 8 | +10 m range |
| Aerial Snare | 8 | +100% damage to targets with Incapacitated Immunity, his lowest priority |
| Defiance | 8 | Restores 20% HP on use |
| Sword Aura Rampage | 8 | Not covered |
| Ankle Slice | 2 | None |
| Attack Preparation, Experienced Counterstrike, Blood Absorption | 10 each | Passives |
| Murderous Burst | 11 | Passive |
| Destructive Impulse | 9 | Passive, takes the last points |
| Impact Hit, Survival Stance, Protection Armor, Identify Weakness, Survival Willpower | 2 to 4 | Passives |
He weights the build towards passives on purpose and stops most actives at 8. The two passives he pushes hardest are Experienced Counterstrike, the frontal damage boost, and Attack Preparation, the general damage boost that also adds defense and accuracy. The level-8 picks lean on HP absorption because, in his words, the Gladiator is a semi-tank and should be tanky on bosses.
Specialty picks for the main skills
A skill has five specialties. You use one at skill levels 8 to 11, two from 12, and three from 20, so the order below is the order you slot them in. The options are from the game data; the picks are the creators'.
Keen Strike
- At skill level 8, pick one of: +20% MP restored; absorbs 1% HP; +50% Multi-Hit on hit
- At 12 and 16: 12: each hit cuts 1 s off Ruinous Blow's cooldown. 16: adds the Reckless Strike chain
- Who picks what: Levelling: MP restored (aLuckyRO) or HP absorb (Inven). End game: the 12 and 16 options (Storyteller, xMontu)
Rending Blow
- At skill level 8, pick one of: -20% MP consumed; +200 Block while using it; usable while moving
- At 12 and 16: 12: up to 12% more damage when fewer targets are hit. 16: restores 50 MP on a Critical Hit
- Who picks what: Levelling: -20% MP (aLuckyRO) or moving (Inven). End game: moving plus the 12 and 16 options (Storyteller, xMontu)
Overhead Slam
- At skill level 8, pick one of: absorbs 0.7% HP; turns into an AoE; adds the Upward Strike chain
- At 12 and 16: 12: every hit is a Critical Hit. 16: removes the cooldown
- Who picks what: Levelling: HP absorb (aLuckyRO). End game: the chain plus the 12 and 16 options (Storyteller, xMontu)
Ruinous Blow
- At skill level 8, pick one of: +20% Skill Speed; +12.5 m range; +30% Skill Critical Hit
- At 12 and 16: 12: extra damage on hit. 16: ignores Block and Evasion and lands as a Multi-Hit
- Who picks what: Levelling: range (aLuckyRO). End game: Skill Speed plus the 12 and 16 options (Storyteller)
Leaping Slam
- At skill level 8, pick one of: Prepare for Battle for 3 s; 50% chance to trigger Ankle Slice; cooldown reset on a kill
- At 12 and 16: 12: +20% PvE Damage Tolerance for 3 s. 16: becomes an AoE that pulls enemies in
- Who picks what: Cooldown reset for mobs (aLuckyRO, xMontu, Sen), Prepare for Battle on bosses (xMontu, Storyteller)
Crushing Wave
- At skill level 8, pick one of: absorbs 2% HP; 50 MP on a Critical Hit; up to +20% damage on more targets
- At 12 and 16: 12: cooldown reset on a Critical Hit. 16: 50% chance to pull
- Who picks what: Levelling: HP (aLuckyRO). End game: the 12 and 16 options (Storyteller)
Rush Strike
- At skill level 8, pick one of: 300 Stamina on hit; +10 m range; becomes a charge with AoE damage
- At 12 and 16: 12: -10 s cooldown. 16: +25% Knockdown chance
- Who picks what: Range (aLuckyRO), then range and cooldown (Storyteller, xMontu)
The core payoff skills behave like this in the game data. Overhead Slam hits a knocked-down target and has a 7% chance to trigger on every hit against a boss with Incapacitated Immunity; its level-16 specialty removes the cooldown, which is why xMontu calls it a must-have as soon as you can reach it. Ruinous Blow dashes in and grants Prepare for Battle for 20 seconds: +20% PvE damage, +10% PvP damage, +100 Critical Hit and +15% Status Effect Chance. Leaping Slam is your 20 m gap closer, and its cooldown reset makes mob farming fast.
For the rest, Storyteller takes the 12 and 16 options on Sword Aura Rampage (Multi-Hit on hit, and every hit cutting 1 s off all cooldowns) and calls the second one important. xMontu rates Aerial Snare and Ankle Slice low for PvE and aLuckyRO leaves them last; Sen uses both mainly in PvP.
After 45: which skills go to 16 and 20
Past skill level 10, the extra levels come from elsewhere. An Inven guide lists the sources: up to +4 on a skill from the Daevanion board, +1 from each ring for up to two skills, +1 each from the weapon and the guard, and +1 per Arcana card that carries the skill. Global launches with skill and stigma levels capped at 20, according to CrusherXGaming. Level 20 matters because it opens the third specialty slot; Storyteller calls any level past 20 wasted since, in his words, skill level is only for the specialty.

xMontu's order for the active skills, with the average level among the top Gladiators he surveyed. Source: xMontu
| Priority | Active skills | Average level among top Gladiators (xMontu) |
|---|---|---|
| First | Overhead Slam, Rending Blow, Ruinous Blow | 20 |
| Second | Leaping Slam, Crushing Wave, Defiance, Rush Strike | 16 |
| Third | Ankle Slice, Mocking Blade, Sword Aura Rampage | 14 |
| Last | Keen Strike, Aerial Snare | 13 |
Every source from July on agrees on the first three. Storyteller takes Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow to 20 and nothing else, Chopy calls Overhead Slam and Rending Blow essential at 20 with Ruinous Blow next, and Sen wants Overhead Slam at 20 as quickly as possible.
Passives can go well past 10. xMontu's list puts Experienced Counterstrike first at an average of 31, then Attack Preparation (29), Murderous Burst (28) and Impact Hit (28), the four that add damage for you and your party. Chopy explains why Experienced Counterstrike moved to the top after a July patch in Korea: its frontal damage boost is counted separately from your other damage boosts and works without blocking.
Stigmas for Gladiator
Stigmas define your playstyle and provide essential buffs. You will swap these depending on whether you are tanking, dealing damage, or fighting other players.
Stigma skills require character level 22 in the game data. Each one costs a shard to acquire, then 1 shard per level up to 5, 2 per level to 10, 4 per level to 15 and 8 per level to 20: 75 shards to take one stigma to 20. A stigma gains a perk every five levels and keeps it; the levels in between add a little duration or power. xMontu notes that global has not confirmed how many stigmas you can equip; on the servers already running it started at four and grew to five, then six, according to Madsin.

Lunge Stance and the buffs it lists, combat speed, move speed, double chance and a chance to cut every cooldown on a critical hit. It is shown here at level 25, a stigma level global does not have at launch. Source: xMontu
| Stigma | What it does | The perks that matter |
|---|---|---|
| Lunge Stance | +20% Combat Speed for 10 s | 5: Double Chance. 10: move speed. 15: Identify Weakness x1.5. 20: 50% chance to cut all cooldowns by 1 s on a Critical Hit |
| Rage Burst | A hit that makes Overhead Slam trigger on the target for 10 s and raises your PvE damage by 10% | 5: -15 s cooldown |
| Wave Armor | Damage over time to enemies around you for 10 s | 10: Experienced Counterstrike x1.5. 15: Murderous Burst x1.5 |
| Zikel's Blessing | +20% Attack and +100 Accuracy for 10 s, on you only | 5: +50% Stagger Gauge Damage. 10: +10% PvE damage. 15: +50% Multi-Hit chance |
| Focused Block | Guaranteed Parry, and MP and Stamina back once on a Parry | 5: a second use in a row. 20: 10% HP back on a Parry |
| Lifestealing Blade | Hits up to four enemies and absorbs 10% HP | 10: Predation on your party |
The order to fill them:
steps
- From level 22, acquire the core four and take them to 5. aLuckyRO's fresh 45 has Lunge Stance, Rage Burst, Wave Armor and Focused Block at 5, with Lifestealing Blade at 3 and Zikel's Blessing at 1. Level 5 is 5 shards each and brings Rage Burst's shorter cooldown and Focused Block's second use.
- Push Lunge Stance first. Storyteller puts it ahead of everything because its level-20 perk can cut all your cooldowns by a second on a crit, which he rates above Zikel's level-20 perk.
- Watch Wave Armor's perks. Its 1.5x on Experienced Counterstrike arrives at stigma level 10 and its 1.5x on Murderous Burst at 15. Chopy calls Wave Armor mandatory because of the first.
- Fill the last slots by role. Focused Block only if you tank; otherwise aLuckyRO swaps in Blade Toss for its boss defense reduction. Sen suggests Tenaciousness, three seconds of immunity, in place of Focused Block.
Chopy's six after the 8 July Korean patch are Lunge Stance, Zikel's Blessing, Focused Block, Lifestealing Blade, Rage Burst and Wave Armor, and Storyteller runs the same six in September. If you need help understanding how Stigmas function mechanically alongside regular skills, read the Skills, Stigmas and Macros Guide.
Daevanion board priorities
The Daevanion Guide explains the full 8-board system from the KR/TW version.
Full KR/TW Route (8 Boards)
steps
- Nestaken (Nezekan) — Attack and Combat Speed Take Attack and Combat Speed first. Skip Defense, Accuracy, Evasion and Cooldown Reduction until the offensive route is secure.
- Gikkel (Zikel) — Damage Boost Fill Damage Boost before Damage Tolerance for solo and damage-focused PvE.
- Bai Jie (Vaizel) — Critical Damage Boost Add Critical Damage after the first two offensive routes.
- Trinelle (Triniel) — Multi-hit Chance Multi-hit is the next damage layer.
- Ariel — PvE Offense & Boss Damage Crucial for maximizing endgame PvE output. Focus on boss damage multiplier nodes.
- Aspel (Azphel) — PvP Offense If participating in PvP, pick up PvP Attack and Critical Resistance here.
- Markutan (Marchutan) — Defense & Survivability Take Max HP and Block for when you need to act as an off-tank.
- Eusdier (Yustiel) — Utility Low priority for Gladiator; grab remaining passive utility if points allow.
Macro setup and animation canceling
The Gladiator benefits massively from animation canceling, often referred to as weaving. This allows you to cut the aftercast animation of a skill, fitting more attacks into a smaller window and increasing your overall DPS.
First, change your control scheme. aLuckyRO strongly advises switching to Top Target Mode (the classic Aion 1 mode) rather than Action Combat Mode. In Top Target Mode, your character will automatically continue using basic attacks between your skills, whereas Action Combat Mode stops your character entirely after a skill cast.
When setting up your macro delay in the in-game settings, base it on your ping. If your ping is below 50ms, set the delay to 10ms. If your ping is over 80ms, set the delay to 40-50ms. aLuckyRO leaves mana recovery (Keen Strike) out of his macro in Top Target Mode, because that mode keeps auto-attacking between skills on its own; in Action Combat Mode he says to add it.
PvE play and rotations
Your PvE rotation revolves around keeping your buffs active and spamming your heaviest hitters.
Always start a fight with Ruinous Blow to apply the Prepare for Battle buff (+20% damage, +100 crit). Once engaged, use your main buffs like Zikel's Blessing, Lunge Stance, and Wave Armor on cooldown.
Your bread-and-butter damage loop is spamming Rending Blow and Overhead Slam while weaving Keen Strike in between. Overhead Slam is normally gated by a 7% proc chance, but when you activate Rage Burst, you can spam Overhead Slam continuously for 10 seconds.
For area-of-effect damage, Crushing Wave provides strong cleave and adds 5 stagger gauge damage, while the Wrath Wave stigma knocks enemies down and deals 50 stagger damage. When a boss is fully staggered, use Sword Aura Rampage repeatedly to execute.
PvP play
PvP requires a different approach, focusing heavily on crowd control and sticking to your target. Your standard PvE damage rotation still applies once you catch someone, but getting to them is the challenge.
Kasum Adventurer's PvP rotation opens with Leaping Slam to close the gap, immediately followed by Ankle Slice to root and snare the enemy player. Sen also flags Aerial Snare as a crucial tool for crowd-controlling opponents once you are on them.
PvP is very situational, according to Sen. Your Stigmas should be swapped based on the matchup: Sen recommends bringing defensive or utility options like silence, health reduction debuffs, or tenacity (immunity) to survive burst windows.
Class-specific gearing
When gearing your Gladiator, prioritize offensive stats that scale your physical damage.

The main stat order xMontu recommends, Might and Precision ahead of everything else. Source: xMontu For your main stats, the priority is: Might, Precision, Intelligence, Constitution, Willpower, then Dexterity. For God Stats, aim for: Wisdom, Destruction, Time, Illusion, Space, and Death.
When rolling your Soul Bindings on weapons and guards, xMontu recommends prioritizing Combat Speed, Weapon Damage Boost, Damage Boost, Might, Precision, and Multi-hit. If you are serving as the main tank for your dungeon group, you will need to trade some offensive stats for Defense and Damage Tolerance.
For the Genius Insight system, xMontu stresses one specific goal before you lock any stats: prioritize finding Smite at 2% or higher on slots 3 and 9 across all boards. For a complete guide on how to gear up once you hit the soft cap, refer to After Level 45: Gear Progression.
Strengths and weaknesses
Aion 2 Gladiator FAQ
FAQ
Which skills should I level first on a Gladiator?
Keen Strike and Rending Blow, your left and right click, at every level your character allows. Then the passives: Survival Stance and Protection Armor early, then Blood Absorption, Attack Preparation and Identify Weakness, with Experienced Counterstrike and Murderous Burst as soon as they arrive at 21 and 25.
When do I get my first specialty?
At skill level 8. Keen Strike and Rending Blow can reach it at character level 19, because a skill goes up one level every three character levels after you learn it.
How many skill points will I have at level 45?
About 250 on a freshly levelled character, by aLuckyRO's count, and around 420 at end game. A skill costs 21 points to reach 10, so that covers about twelve skills at 10 at most.
Does Gladiator use mana?
Yes, and it runs short early on. Take -20% MP consumed on Rending Blow and +20% MP restored on Keen Strike at skill level 8. The real fix is Rending Blow's specialty at skill level 16, which restores 50 MP on every Critical Hit.
Can a Gladiator tank in Aion 2?
Yes. While the Templar is the dedicated main tank, a Gladiator has enough survivability, plate armor, and life-steal passives to tank early one-star and two-star dungeons successfully.
Should I use Action Combat Mode or Top Target Mode?
For Gladiator, Top Target Mode (the Aion 1 classic mode) is highly recommended. It allows your character to continuously auto-attack between skills without stopping, which is essential for weaving and mana regeneration.
